Lightest Runout Sensor
I didn’t like the filament runout sensor that I had purchased early on in my 3D printing days, it was based on the ender style end stop as it seemed to add some resistance. It could get annoying when changing filaments especially when changing to a different colour whilst attempting manual multi-colour prints. I wanted…
Time-lapses again
The camera I was using for my Mercury Zero G printer was only a temporary one, as there were many other things that needed doing to complete the build. The ancient web camera I had used was good enough for me to remotely monitor my prints… until recently. Perhaps it was the frequent heat cycles…
No longer for-Evernote
Note taking apps are so handy, and my go-to note taking application has always been Evernote. I’ve always used it to create notes on projects that I have had to collaborate on as you can share notes and both can edit together. Every single laptop, computer, tablet and mobile phone I’ve ever owned would have…
Yutong Bus Ventilation repairs
During my 3D printing adventures, I have found myself working on varied projects but this one has been the most fun yet. A good friend of mine runs a fleet of busses and coaches, and part of the responsibilities is to ensure they have a source of replacement parts for those that are regularly broken.…
Custom stepper towers for Mercury one.1
I have had to make a variation of the stepper motor towers for the mercury “one.1” 3D printer. Its an awesome design, and I’ll have found it to be a brilliant 3D printer. However when I turned up the speed, I found the belts have on occasion ridden up the idlers on the metal dowel…
PEY print surface tests
I’ve seen a few posts about using the new micro textured print surfaces that give coloured reflections on the surface of the print. Given the efforts converting the Ender 5 into a ZeroG, it felt it would be worth the investment. As you can tell by the results, it’s rather impressive! The only downside is…
DIY filament runout sensor
I wanted to get a filament runout sensor for my Mercury ZeroG, but didn’t want to buy a cheap off the shelf one that would ultimately fail, so made one using a Creality end stop switch. I liked the concepts of the ones online, however I wanted to use a Y-adaptor so I could have…
Simplyprint.io
Giving this web application a try, keeping a remote eye on both my printers while I’m out and prints in progress is handy. I have to say, this is impressive, I’d imagine extremely handy for those running a print farm. Even the mobile app is pretty good, providing a summary at one glance. Initial setup…
Crystal Clear again
I love the idea of having a posh-looking chronograph and had been looking on auction sites and the Facebook marketplace for a second-hand one. The good-looking ones that I saw were selling for more than I was willing to spend on a non-automatic watch. But then I got a notification that my saved eBay search…
Black & White
Not usually one to order parts for a watch until I had imagined and settled on what I wanted to create, but I had done exactly that. I just thought the case was curious enough to order it, but then had forgotten all about it. I didn’t even purchase a dial or decide on what…
Ostero-horology!?
I love learning about the history behind horology and the varied methodology and styles used to produce a timepiece, for me, however, the skeleton movements arouse the most curiosity. The aesthetic appeal of seeing the inner workings such as the gears and main spring moving can not be ignored. The tradition of the Skeleton movement…
Hold my Root beer
I quite like the gold and silver combo, or the “root beer” rose gold and steel. We all know which watch inspired the term, and that’s the Rolex GMT Master II in rose gold and steel. A premium high-tier luxury watch that indeed comes at a premium. Probably one of the most copied dual colour…
Gearing up
My 2016 VW Tiguan’s gear knob’s leather was getting worn and felt rough, it’s not a big deal but it’s irritating me enough to do something about it. A friend offered to retrim it, providing the option to customise it, but I’m still playing with the idea. However, I would have to buy another anyway…
Movement and dial swap
This little Nautilus homage watch gets less wrist time nowadays. The dark blue sunburst dial isnt so appealing as much as it used to be. Perhaps it’s the hands, and dial combo, but I had decided it needed to change. The “Tiffany” blue dial is rather trendy and photos of the dial look rather fetching,…
A classic case
In recasting the decorative “Nomega” open heart dial and NH39 movement from the current heavy case to something more subtle to show off the dial a bit more. I chose a 39mm polished stainless steel case. I just to need to find straps for this one before I can call this project done.
Relaxed SKX007 GMT
I love the Seiko SKX007, an iconic Seiko design, a size that also suits so many. Not too large for my small wrists, or indeed for my wife also. But there isn’t a GMT version, so I made one. Starting with a brushed steel case and featuring the recently released Seiko NH34a 24 Jewel GMT…
Adding a splash of colour!
The black dial of a Seiko divers watches, although a classic, with the brightly luminous phosphorescent circles and a triangle with the chrome borders, confirms its Sieko identity…It begs to be changed. Especially so when stored amongst other Seiko diver watches. Every morning, competing for wrist time, an old favourite doesn’t command attention like the…
Orange Pi-hole
If you don’t know, Pi-Hole is a small operating system /software based on Linux used to block online adverts. It’s brilliant when installed on a Raspberry pi. I used to have a pi-hole but it was on an actual raspberry-pi zero which I ended up repurposing to make a Pwnagochi. Raspberry Pis -of any variety-…
